Indian stock markets are set to remain operational on Saturday, May 18, 2024, as both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have scheduled a special trading session.
This session, focused on the equity and equity derivatives segments, aims to evaluate the exchanges’ disaster preparedness in the event of major disruptions.

During this special session, both exchanges will undergo an intraday switch from their primary site to the disaster recovery (DR) site. The NSE issued a statement on May 7, informing members about the special live trading session and intra-day switch-over.

What will be the Timings for the special session tomorrow?
The primary session for the cash market will commence with the morning block deal window from 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM, followed by the pre-open session from 9:00 AM to 9:08 AM. Regular trading for the primary session will run from 9:15 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a break until 11:15 AM.
For the second session at the disaster recovery site, the pre-open session will run from 11:15 AM to 11:23 AM, with normal trading scheduled from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Post-close order closing and modifications will be allowed until 1:00 PM.

In the F&O segment, the initial session will start at 9:15 AM and conclude at 10:00 AM, conducted from the primary site. The second session, taking place at the disaster recovery site, will run from 11:45 AM to 12:40 PM to facilitate trading activities.
Pervious Special Session
This initiative follows a similar trading session held on March 2, aligning with discussions with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and their technical advisory committee.
The purpose is to assess the preparedness of market infrastructure establishments for unforeseen events and their ability to restore operations from the DR site within the specified time frame.
